Child Travel Policy in Licensed Taxis and PHVs

In the UK, children must use an appropriate child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall. Licensed taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs) have some exemptions, but safety should always come first.

Exemptions for Licensed Taxis/PHVs:

Children under 3 years: May travel unrestrained in the rear seat if a suitable child seat is not available.
Children aged 3 years or older (but under 12 or 135cm): May travel in the rear seat wearing an adult seat belt if a child seat is not available.
Once a child is 12 years old or taller than 135cm, they must use an adult seat belt if fitted.
